Praises & Offenses... Dominican women's poetry in translation

Offenses001 Kerman, Judith, trans. Praises & Offenses: three Women Poets from the Dominican Republic. Rochester, NY: Boa Editions, 2009.

English translations of Dominican poetry are rare. Much rarer still are translations of women’s poetry and fiction into English. This book with an introduction by Dr. Linda Rodríguez Guglielmoni and Fulbright senior scholar Judith Kerman, who also translated it, fills the vacuum by presenting the work of three distinctive Dominican writers: Aída Cartagena Portalatín (1918-1994), Angela Hernández Núñez (b.1954) and Ylonka Nacidit-Perdomo (b.1965). Known for their lyrical versatility, personal courage and sheer experimentation, these three authors have also taught in academia, published novels and essays and participated in the feminist movement.

Praises & Offenses is an important resource for researchers, students and readers who are interested in poetry that deals with gender and identity issues.
